Why we’re at Karlovy Vary
From 3 to 6 July 2026 we’ll be in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, for the 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. This time we’re not bringing a project to pitch: we want to meet the people who make films in this region — producers, sales agents, distributors — and get a first-hand sense of how the audiovisual market actually works.
A route through Eastern Europe
Karlovy Vary is one leg of a longer journey. For some time we’ve been following the audiovisual market of Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans, convinced it still has plenty of room to grow; and to understand it properly we decided to be there in person, one festival at a time:
- Belgrade — we’ve already been to Beldocs, the documentary festival, for our first contacts with producers in the region.
- Karlovy Vary — the July stop, in the Czech Republic.
- Sarajevo — in August we’ll be at the Sarajevo Film Festival, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Three cities, one goal: to understand how this market moves and to build relationships with the people who work in it.
What we want to learn
We’re interested in concrete questions: how films are financed and produced, the channels through which they reach audiences, who the players that matter are, and which legal issues are emerging. It’s the kind of first-hand observation that helps us serve our clients better in our film and audiovisual practice and in copyright protection.
There’s also a simpler reason: relationships are built before you need them. Getting to know the professionals of Eastern Europe today means having the right network tomorrow, when a project or a co-production takes shape.
Let’s meet at the festival
If you’re in Karlovy Vary between 3 and 6 July and would like to meet us, or talk through a legal question in the industry, get in touch: we’ll be glad to find a moment during the festival.
